August 12/13.........WTF?

August 12/13 2004 was the day MDP taught all Maldivians about violence. Why the hell it's celebrated as Youth Day, I have no idea. I'm not with any party or I don't intend to. But, this country has never been this down during the 30 years of Maumoon's presidency. In the short time this MDP government has been in power, there have been more violence and crime. So this is not something we have to be proud of. I hope we see the change we really voted for.

One of the TOP Dive destinations in the world!

I think everyone in the world knows that Maldives is one of the top diving destinations in the world. I started diving a few years ago and dive almost once in two months if I can. It's a different world down below. What I really want to say is that even though we're rated as one of top dive destinations there are a very dive shops in Male'. I know only four of them. The prices are relatively good but they are not stocked with spares! I went to two of the shops the other day to try and see how informative the staff are about diving equipment. The two shops I went had to Bangladeshi guys doing all the work. They didn't know anything about the dive equipment. To whatever item I pointed at, they replied 'Varah rangalhu hunanee' or 'It's very good'. The Maldivian guy in the shop just waited without saying anything at one store. In the other one the Maldivian guy just told me to leave if I don't intend to buy anything they say is good!!!! What kind of customer service is that??? In the end, I couldn't even get what I wanted to buy even.

I've dived with all the dive centers in Male' and I think the best one around is Sea Explorers. The staff are good and they take the diver to whatever dive site the diver requests whether permitting. Then there is Ocean Dive Desk, they work really hard to get customers and they go out almost everyday for dive trips. And finally, Maldivers Diving Center. Supposed to be the first dive center in Male'. They only go diving on Saturdays on the boat, otherwise they just jump outside West Park area where there is a sewage outlet! Sometimes its a bit annoying as there are some really annoying staff there.

Now i'm just thinking of which dive center to choose from to go on my next dive!

Piracy in Maldives

I just found out that someone was selling bootleg video CD's of the Dhivehi film 'Yoosuf' and has been caught. The poor guy is going to be sentenced for piracy as far as I heard. Is there a copyright law in the Maldives? I'm sure this superhit movie has songs with music from some Indian movie. Come on! There are so many shops in Male' selling pirated DVD's, VCD's and audio CD's. Some of the shops have the latest Hollywood releases the day after they have been released in cinemas across the world. Why isn't the government authorities doing anything to stop that kind of piracy? Just because pirated copy of a dhivehi movie was sold in the market everyone is on TV talking about piracy!!!! Puhleeeese! Hollywood and Bollywood spend millions of dollars to make a movie and the pirated copies are sold for Rf 30 each or sometimes more at shops here in Male'. You guys should go and check a shop called 'OdioMart' in Majeedi Magu! I bought a DVD of 'Die Hard 4' just to check out something a friend of mine told me about. Before the movie starts there is a small ad of OdioMart and says 'This movie is brought to you by OdioMart". WTF????

Is piracy laws in the Maldives just for some people? The whole Maldivian Film Industry is based on copied movies. Come on people! Try to be original! Not copy the whole movie shot by shot! Just my thoughts.......
